Hi, this is Molly McBride Jacobson, archives intern at the Woodman Family Foundation. One of my projects has been inventorying, condensing, and rehousing Betty Woodman’s slide collection, which she used to document her work from the 1970s until the mid-2000s. She used this collection as a pre-digital database, arranging her slides by year and then separately by format. As I’ve worked with the collection, I have noticed various works are consistently grouped together (for example, “Seashore” and “Interior Diptych” always appear together). This arrangement suggests how Betty thought about her works in conversation with one another, and it's important to preserve it in order to maintain a piece of her thought process in the collection. My hope is that by preserving her system of organization, future researchers will get a little peek into her mind as well as a comprehensive look at her work.
