Happy birthday to George Woodman
Happy birthday to George Woodman—lover of color, pattern, and setting the stage—who was born on this day in 1932 in Concord, New Hampshire. An artist who considered that pattern "has a temporal dimension, in a way . . . cinematic,” Woodman notes in his statement for Systemic Patterning, 1980, Hansen Galleries, New York: “In the end I find myself, like any dramatist, involved with suspense and the unexpected, trying now to hold my audience back, not to lead it forward. It is hoped that the eye will be rewarded the price of its attention.”
