Hello! I’m Jennifer DiCocco, the Woodman Family Foundation’s registrar. As the Foundation’s registrar, I have the privilege of managing Betty, George, and Francesca Woodman’s artwork inventories. Though impossible to select a favorite object from such a prolific inventory, one of my favorite groups of works are Betty’s paintings on sketch paper. I had initially misunderstood them as preliminary drawings, but discovered they were renderings of existing floor and wall works. In these paintings, Betty’s sculptures are depicted in outlines of bold India ink atop blocks of vibrant color and patterns. To me, these paintings are playful reimaginations of Betty’s large-scale works, and reaffirm her success as both sculptor and painter.
